The Saskatchewan Junior Angus Association was officially formed in 1996 and works to educate and provide opportunities to Angus Juniors in Saskatchewan. We host 2 shows each year - one in the Summer, that rotates around the province, and one at Canadian Western Agribition in November. Marketing, Judging, Showmanship, Grooming, Peewee Classes, and conformation, plus much more are a part of the whole concept at these shows. Educational clinics and entertainment are planned and all events are run by the Juniors, including obtaining funding for hosting the events.

President's Report

Hello Junior Angus members, and fellow Angus breeders. Another year has gone by, and it is almost time for the fall show circuit to start up again. I hope that everyone had a good summer of haying, and hopefully everyone is close to finishing up on the harvest. I know it was a real slow year for us this year trying to get everything done!!

I am Brandon Sander and this year am the president of the SJAA. I farm with my father at Shellbrook, Saskatchewan as well as work full time at Double F Cattle Company at Parkside.

We just recently held our junior show in Prince Albert along with the Saskatchewan Angus Gold Show and the Saskatchewan portion of the World Angus Forum Futurity. We had a great turn out with about forty junior members from across the province, and we were more than happy with the number of cattle which attended the show. All of the kids had a great time, and made lots of new friends. We also had our annual general meeting during the show, in which we elected new board members to the Junior Angus Association. Congratulations to Tyler Smyth for being elected vice president and Miranda Frey for being elected our Secretary - there were also a number of new and ‘old’ juniors elected for directors at large - see the complete list on this page - I look forward to working with everyone in the coming year.

We had a cow pie auction as one of our fund raisers at the show and I would like to thank everyone who purchased tickets, and congratulations to Chris Poley for winning the jackpot. I would also like to thank all of the Junior members for their hard work and dedication to the show and the Association. We really need to push the Junior Association and keep kids interested in this breed and the junior program because the juniors we have today are going to be the future of our Angus breed. I would also like to say a huge thank to everyone else that helped out with the show, especially our sponsors. Without the sponsors there would be no show, so on behalf of myself and the whole Junior Angus Association I would like to thank you for your support.
Instead of the usual pizza party upstairs in the barns at Agribition, this year we are planning to take all the junior members out Friday afternoon for a fun filled late afternoon of bowling and pizza! I can’t wait. There will be designated vehicles transporting people from the barns to the bowling alley. Our junior board is also going to try and put together a heifer raffle this year as one of our fundraisers. We will be working on this at our next meeting during Agribition.

The SJAA has once again has set aside money to send juniors to the CJAA GOAL conference in Calgary in February. Applications for juniors that would like to attend the GOAL conference are due by December 15, 2008. There are also two $500 scholarships from the Junior Association to any of the junior members so make sure that you apply for these by November 15th!!! We will also be looking to assist in sending two of our junior members to Showdown 2009 in PEI, so make sure to apply for that by March 1, 2009 if you are interested in being one of the juniors that gets $500 towards their Maritime Showdown experience.

If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas for the association please call me or any of the other board members. Can’t wait to see everyone this fall.

Brandon Sander, SJAA President

Director Profiles

Hi fellow juniors and Angus breeders, I’m Erika Easton and I live on a farm about 10 miles west of Wawota. I am 18 years and currently in my second year at the University of Regina, taking Business Administration. My parents, Dale and Shelly and I run Eastondale Angus, where we run 150 purebred Angus. There have been Angus cattle on our farm for over 60 years.

I have been elected to the SJAA board as a director at large. For the past two years I have been the President of the AJAA. I have also been a director before, as well. This year I was also elected to the CJAA board as a director from Sask. This will be a new experience for me, as I will get to plan a couple national events such as GOAL conference and Showdown. I have also been heavily involved with the Wawota 4-H Beef Club for 10 years, where I have held all elected positions. I am also currently the District #5 president.

The SJAA offers many great opportunities for young Angus breeders to enjoy and take advantage of. You could attend conferences, shows, pizza parties and even win a scholarship. I hope to help keep the SJAA strong and improve it for future juniors.

Erika Easton, SJAA Director

Other activities I am involved in are soccer and figure skating. I look forward to being on the Junior Angus Board and helping promote this great breed. Hello everyone. My name is Karl Sauter and I have the privilege to be one of the Saskatchewan Junior Angus directors again this year. I am 21 years of age and reside east of Kelso on a farm, Bridgeway Farms Ltd., in which I recently became financially involved in this spring. I work full time on the family farm which consists of 3000 acres of seeded crop land every year as well as 150 commercial cows and my new addition to the farm of a small herd of pure bred Red Angus cattle. I have been involved on the board of the junior association for five years now and look forward to another productive year. Junior Angus has been a great experience for me, meeting friends and fellow breeders all over Canada. I especially look forward to the World Forum in July of next summer at Spruce Meadows. The Junior Angus has been a door way to many opportunities to see different types of cattle, meet different breeders and expand my mind on opportunities only the Angus breed has to offer. I hope to see everyone out and taking advantage of these opportunities that I have been able to experience every year as a young member. All our functions small and large can open up a new door for every member willing to take the opportunity the association gives them every year. So come out, learn some things, meet some people, and most of all have fun while you are doing it. I wish everyone the best of another year to come and I am glad to have the opportunity to be involved in it once again.

Karl Sauter, SJAA Director
